overseas work without imca cert

I've heard that there are ways around imca certs. just curious if anyone has any info on this. seems to me that if you took up residents outside U.S. then technically you wouldn't have to have a card saying you were good to work outside the country.

Depends on where you want to work. I know of Americans working Far East, West Africa etc. With ADC tickets, usually for American companies, though. the majority of Companies in Europe, Middle East, far East etc. Will look for some kind of IMCA stamped ticket
Where you reside is really neither here nor there, it's where you want to work that decides what kind of ticket you need.

SE Asia is open to all.  The problem is the pay.  They can hire local "divers" for a lot less than what a American will work for.  Their problem is the local divers don't have the skill level that most Americans have. Plane tickets are expensive and work visas can be a hassle, so they just hire local.  When they need some pipe hitting MFers.  Then they pull in Americans, Canadians, or Brits.  I've worked with some Phillipino hands that were real good, but they will work for half of what I would.

IMCA does not certify divers . IMCA offers guildline used by contractors who are part of there membership . These memberships however are the main ones that the oil and gas producers use . So therefor they are the main players in the business .

If you go on their site they give you a list of all the certifiying bodies that they recognize .
