There's a Genesis 2 that was made due to legal issues with the original (KM design?) a different model, called Proteus, and a reclaim model, the Abyss. I've only ever dived a mk. 1 Genesis, which was nothing special. Not good, not bad, just....Meh.
Absolutely no idea if STS is being bought out. Sorry.

i hate genesis and omega hats and bandmask, in my opinion they suck.

i dove a genesis once, seemed fine and was similar to a km

Rumour has it the company is now owned by Shearwater Marine Services or it's directors.

I'd have to agree with Skylar, they really are not that nice to use. Too big and heavy and not that well made.

They are huge and heavy but i do have a good friend who has one, it works well for him hes a coon ass with a big square head.
