Might
start where your diving at. Are you freelance, employee, union?
35 years as a diving contractor and union and never paid OT on a depth premium.
Federal prevailing wage has no OT on depth pay.
how real do you want.
Well my boy believe it or not in some states like California the offshore diving is union.
And the best way to find out how you are paid is ask the man who really knows,
YOUR BOSS
There is no real answer! At once upon a time we had this thing called "Katrina" here in the GOM that brought everyone and their bothers and sisters out of the woodwork believing they where "REAL DIVERS". Now under the circ**stances,We had the majors in our hands and got the pay up semi close to what it should be including double dips (Paid depth for every dive that day). Then there was the "Cinderella Dive" (End of shift into next shift). In my book should still hold true and I do my best to pay my guys for it unless overruled by the office But due to everyone going back to cut thwrot metheds to win a bid that has gone BYE BYE!!! sO to answer your question the above is the best as I can see for "Overtime" when it comes to depth pay but for the most part it has gone away!
We used to use a convoluted formula to figure OT on depth.
On your work week:
Total OT Hours x 1/2 Hourly Rate/ Total Hours (Regular Hours + OT Hours) x Hourly Rate = Depth OT Coefficient
Depth OT Coefficient x Depth Pay = Depth OT
Example for diver earning $10/Hour:
44 OT Hours x 5.00 = 220
84 Total Hours x 10.00 = 840
220/840= 0.26
0.26 x depth pay = depth OT
Any extra OT or less than a full week changes the coefficient.
Other companies use other methods. CDI used to use a wh*** other method called "Weighted Average" for depth OT, so you really need to talk to the payroll people where you work. Everyone I've worked for supplied a sheet explaining how they calculated the OT depth. I would be very hesitant to work for someone whose payroll policy is a "real guarded secret" !
Mike,
I havent seen or heard of anyone using the OT differentall formula since the Torch and Subsea days But thanks for the break down maybe we can get it back!!
