A number of guys i work with did rope access as it enabled them to work for a particular north sea company.
I know a diver who did rope access work for a few months. He's still diving.
I did rope access for 3 years, trying to wean myself off diving. (didn't work!). It's a good job if you're into it, and there's a few companies in the North sea and elsewhere that do both, but R/A is like diving- transport to the job. That's it. Definitely a good 2nd string to have, but the R/A industry is also very similar to diving in that it's hard to get a start, a lot of guys doing the ticket with no real idea about the industry and everything is on go-slow just now.
Cheap course, though. Go for it, you might just like it better than diving
Thanks for the help man
I already have it as the company I work for here in Brazil does both jobs, i was just wondering if R/A would help me to go overseas with diving. I dont like R A better then diving anyway.
Well, the guy with the most tickets usually wins! Just joking! Like I said, it won't hurt, but the amount of companies that do both is very small, and usually Inspection-orientated. RBG, Reel Group, KD Marine in the UK offshore, and REDS and HSSE for inshore/windfarm stuff is about all I can think of just now that employ Diver/RAT's. There are others, but the divisions are a lot more separate ( divers dive, RAT's hang around). As for 'overseas' you'll have to ask someone else- I've no idea.
