This is the CURRENT OSHA Standard;

CFR 1910.426(c)(1)

"A separate dive team member shall tend each diver in the water."

Regards
A standby diver shall be available while a diver is in the water.

Most of 1910 Subpart T, mentions a separate dive team member, as mentioned in the other comment, or a stand by diver. Since each diver would need a tender, that makes 5.

In the nuclear industry, 5 is almost always, 4 is rare and 3 NEVER! 3 is asking for trouble, imho.
safety in numbers we used to do some inland jobs with 2 men ( stupid looking back, but back then, real divers and tenders were few and far between inland back home. Everyone wanted to be off shore. I worked anywhere and almost paid for it more than once. I agree 5 may seem extremein some cases. But compamies are paying for conexex loaded with junk that never sees daylight, so why not even up and make sure the diver has help that can think not a conex to carry a corps. Laws are ment to be ammended and changed. THe ADC wants 3 cause it means more junk on deck. Oilers are getting wise to this and things are about to get hot soon.
question....are we trying to make it easier and more efficient for us or are we trying to keep us in the stone ages?
