Whats it like?
Whats it like other years when things aren't in an economic downturn. Just curious since I know things are in the crapper right now and was offered a very lucrative welding job but still have a passion for working underwater (underwater welding to be specific). So if things are usually pretty good with finding a job when the economy and everything is more stable I would be able to pass on this job. Thanks for your help and time.

Uhf, well I am just going to assume that things aren't going to change until at least 2012 (just my opinion). But I believe I could tough it out until things become more stable. Just as long as during the "stable" times work is more readily available to those who haven't established a name for themselves as one of the best.

No I don't believe the world is coming to an end anytime soon :). I am talking from a political stand point, granted I am not as smart at politics as many but it's just my opinion...I think that will be the soonest date or until we get a new president.

So what your saying is....now that Katrina has come and passed an when things settle down things are good, especially when you "go big" with a big company? Is that about in the ballpark?

the point is in rough times you have to go big, go where the money is, go with the big dog. you won't survive with mom and pop companies in slow times. the big ones aren't all hiring, but there's always a chance. and you have to look at places besides in the US. in the past, hurricanes were job security for at least a year afterwards. now, this year, the big oil companies have rearranged their insurance or some crap and now if a hurricane hits, they won't be able to pay the dive companies for the work. that's coming from the office, so i'm just passing it on. don't know how much water it holds. it sucks coming out of school right now, but if it's what you want to do, then you'll find a path to follow until the gom picks up again. get your imca and see if there's money overseas, or find an inland company with steady work. there's always the nuclear plant in tennessee if you have a clean record.
