Has anyone been to PDC in Durban? I am from the U.S and am looking for a dive school to attend. South Africa sounds like a good adventure and a fairly good price. Also looking at Santa Barbara Community College in the U.S. Any help would be appreciated!

I have posted this several times on this site.

Do not get taken for $30,000.00 plus, for  a "diving certification", YES I wrote "diving certification" which is WORTHLESS.

The best school for the money is the Norwegian diving school, in Norway, school cost less than $6,000.00 USD, Yes that is SIX THOUSAND USD

See URL: http://www.nyd.org/cgi-bin/nyd/imaker?id=538&visdybde=1&akt...

You received upon completion and passing a "DIVING LICENSE" issued by the Norwegian Government. That is REALLY VALID anywhere in the world. Travel, course and living there will not cost anywhere near $30,000.00. The Cla**** are in English.

The Next School to consider is Santa Barbara City College’s Marine Diving Technologies Program

See URL: http://www.sbcc.edu/marinediving/

Cost is / was less than $16,000.00 for NON-Resident. Resident was / is less than $5,000.00

See Current Cost and Fees at URL:

Compare these two school to any other, the best value and training is Norwegian Diving School.

Second to look at Santa Barbara City College’s Marine Diving Technologies Program.

All other "Schools" are a WASTE OF MONEY!

Research, the money You save will be Your Own!

I went to PDC.. Not sure on the price but I paid around 8k for course,room/board and food plan. Plane ticket was around 2k round trip. Have about 3-4k of spending money.. Surprisingly there is alot to do in Durban down there.. I had a blast.. Went on safari's went free diving for lobsters I had a good time. The actual school is very good I'm sure it's different now. I think they have there sat boat up and running and you will be air diving off it in the Indian Ocean. If you drink beer you'll love the local pub. A glass is around 1.30$ ha

Thank you all for replies. JMayo, was it fairly easy finding a job after dive school? Are you still diving? How do you like it? Thanks!

I got out of school summer of 09. Found a job 2 days after I started driving around giving out resumes. At the moment I'm not diving anymore. Industry is going s*** and they rather pay some new guy 14.50. Until we get another hurricane I will be pipe welding. With tender rather and amount of work I could barely afford to live ha.
