There's a few inland companies. Not much pay in that area, and the work isn't steady. Indepth would be the best company to work with, they seem to get most of the Bay work. Freelance with others and you might squeak out a living. Seaward used have the Navy contract (ships husbandry), but they only hire veterans. And they plan on closing the base. Oceaneering gets most of Keywitt work. Oceaneering's Solus Shall is there in Ingleside, if you're into inspection work.
The good news is the cost of living is low, and you got the beach.
For a NFG 16 isn't bad. Do the math. 16 x 8 = 128, + 16 x 4 x 1.5 = 96. That sums up to 224 a day minimum. The two overtime days you get time and a half all day, so that's 16 x 12 x 1.5 = 288. 5 regular days at 224 plus two OT day at 288 and you get 1,696 minimum for a full week. Then add on a few more hours of OT, maybe a dive or two w/depth pay. It's easy for new guy that doesn't know his ass from his elbow to make 2k a week.
There's a lot of new lawyers out there that would love to make that much. NOW REMEMBER! You will not always be working. So save your money and work on the side until you are in a comfortable place in your life. Most of you NFGs don't last more than 5 years.
are they working 12's where he is at ? cause he said hes doing an inshore company.
Cause if its 16 for 8's thats a bit of a stinger, less then 200 a day :(
Offshore could be a diffrent rate for FNG's but if you can make more than 6 a month thats not bad at all, should be able to get by on that and stash a little away as well.
whats the break out period these days for a very good tender ?
Say someone who really knows what they are doing and its clear that they are gonna be more use in the water then choking hose ?
Give all the offshore dreamers a shred of hope PAISTE :)
Break depends on the company and the individual. Some companies make you wait in line. That is when they need more divers, they promote from with in. Other companies will hire divers based on their resume', log book, and references. If you're working for big reputable company, it might take you 5 years to break out, not because you suck, it's because there are other good hands with more experience above you.
There's also the kiss of death. That's when they break you out too early and then shelve you. It's a very kind way firing you.
Personally I don't credit anyone as a diver until they have filled up their first logbook.
PAISTE only one log book, s*** I have caught some of these FNGs claiming their p**** assed school dives as offshore lol, they could fill their log book from school. Lets say two and the first 1.5 as DT with at least 100 shallow and deep air, with 100 on gas~
Maybe then maybe they will be 3rd class POS junior divers~
