The Helmax SS-B was the brainchild of George Wymer of Safety Sea Systems, Inc., out of Pounchatoula, LA. This is another example of a top-hinged clamshell opening type helmet. This Helmax was constructed of a fiberglass rear piece and a stainless steel front piece. Some of the unique features of this design are the gas manifold piping around the polycarbonate faceplate, the high-power Krypton lamp and the velcro adjustment band (the black strip at the base of the red on the rear piece). That free-flow valve is knurled and has a quarter turn range from full on to full off.
