Save your money this is the worst time anyway. Most schools are way over priced presently more wanta b's who who still carry school debt running around looking for a job. As the immortal Mr. Flynn once said "WE NOW HAVE ENOUGH TENDERS AND DIVERS TO LAST US FOR THE NEXT 60 YEARS". Become as tradesman like a carpenter or welder that piece of paper your thinking about buying will only get you a hose tending job at best.THIS IS MOSTLY CONSTRUCTUON WORK THAT IS SEASONAL-GO FIGURE. Take some time and read all the posts on this site you dont want to end up being one of those unfortunate who dont have a job and no real prospect of one but still have $26,000 to pay off-that sucks.
Its your money-your life-I have told you so. good luck.
If you do not have a trade like welder, rigger or construction hand. learn to do that first.
Then if your heart is in diving and a girlfriend to feed you go to Santa Barbara City College Marine Technology, about 5 grand at the most. Or Young Memorial in New Orleans, about same price.
Do not bust loose with 26k on a fishing expedition. A diver is a mechanic that go's underwater to fix things if your not a mechanic do not waste your money.
The school is a puppy mill and in this economy think long and hard before leaping into the mill pond.
$26,000 A WASTE OF YOUR MONEY!
YOU CAN GO TO SEVERAL SCHOOLS FOR LESS, MUCH LESS.
That includes all my commercial gear and all my scuba gear dorm and food and books. That’s the air/mix course the EMT training the dmt training scuba instructor cert. and under water welding specialist cert. all wrapped up in a 7 month course. I haven’t been able to find a school that all of these cla**** together it’s all split up between different schools
You know it sounds impressive and you will learn a lot. However everyone that is answering you is speaking from experience.Experience that is worth more than the 13k they are saving you .Why 13k because even with all the things you named with the exception of the dmt course , you wont spend 13k total if you are serious and move forward. If you go to the Gulf you dont need a commercial hat right away any way. Do not spend 26k I repeat do not spend 26k. But what ever way you go may God help you and protect you. The school is only the tip of it.
Believe me I respect the experience, so are there any suggestions to any schools that offer all that this school is but for cheaper?
I dont know about the school in santa barbara but the one in Morgan City only does the basic cert. What Dale and others are saying is you don't need all those certs to begin with . you can get alot of that on the job.Maybe not the dmt. I am a dmt. but even that is not a need really. If I could inject in my young mind the knowledge of the right decision .I would have gone to young memorial . I spent 7500 at the college of oceaneering in wilmington Ca. I was on my second day working and met a guy who spent 500 at young. or something cheap like that. Most of your major companies will give you opportunities to get your welding skills. But if up were to go to emt/dmt make sure the the emt certs are transferable to what ever state you are moving to afterward .Mine werent cuz I was a L.A. county emt and Louisiana didnt accept that, which meant no ambulance work in the off season. The work in the GOM is slow now no sign on bonuses and companies calling you like when I came out of school . The consensus advice is just get the basic cert at young or santa barbara. and go from there . I would go so far as to say if a g.i. bill is paying the tab take something else more lucrative first. After you complete that take this on your own dime you'll get more out of it .
Two other less expensive schools one in Minnesota and I believe its somewhere around $11,000. Alpha Training Group, Arcata, Ca. 480 hrs for $5,000.another $4500 for u/w welding. Another in North Carolina thats about the same in price that also looks real good. If you want to spend more just write out a check for the diffrence and send it to me.
SO BEFORE YOU SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY REMBER MOST DROP OUT AND END UP QUITTING FOR BETTER PAYING & STABLE LIFE STYLES. THERE ARE PLENTY OF GUYS AND GALS WHO ARE WALKING AROUND OUT THERE WITHOUT JOBS AND STILL HAVE DIVE SCHOOL DEBT TO PAY OFF-that sucks!!
Our immortal MR. FLYNN has been quoted on saying"WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH TENDERS AND wantabee DIVERS TO LAST US FOR THE NEXT 60 YEARS". Good Luck.
if you really want to get a commercial divers card, dont spend alot on b*******. Go to young memorial in morgan city La and spend half as much and learn twice as much......The real education comes from goood ooool practical aplication. The most aggrivating thing in the diving buissnes is having a hot dog from an expensive school who cant even dawn a hat properly. Good luck meat...
hey dude, i have first hand time dealing with CDA since i went there a little over a year ago, other then being able to get my DCBC Certification to work over sea's witch has come good to have. CDA is kinda a waist of money, no body ask's really where you went to school. anybody can really graduate from a dive school its what you do after school, out of my class of 28 people, 4 people from my class are still in the diving line of work. if ya got any questions about the school feel free to ask.
did u go through their EMT and DMT course?
