Are people tearing them out of the hood pockets? Could be trashing them by tearing the solder off, or if you're not pulling them out leaving them stuffed in a salty hood is probably doing it. If none of that makes sense I'd suggest ponying up the cash for some better comms... if you're not doing that already.
wet speakers and mics last about a week.
Take a 5 gal. plastic bucket and mount a 100 watt bulb inside it.
place speakers on table and put bucket over and leave overnight with light on.
speakers will be nice and dry for next use.
check all soldered connections.
Divers supply in gretna sells ears that will fit into the original KM rubber protectors. Also try the electrovoice "noise cancelling" mic. mount it in a plastic bottle cap so it will fit in the oral nasal. At the end of the dive, pull the hood off and let the ears and mic dry...this will also keep the face seal from rotting before its time.
Don't mix the bands from a 10 to an 18 or viseversa. They are not the same size. If you put a 18 band on a 10, the shell could fall away from the band.
Well THAT'S definitely a solution, most impressive with the stone fish, nasty buggers. And a very clever fix for the compressor too, but unless there was a very generous lady out there where the hell did you guys get tampons..... did you put them on the inventory??? Have to answer any awkward questions for the resupply? Hehehe awesome though.... awesome.
Man you should compile stories like this and publish a book. The general public might not make heads or tales of it but it would give all of us a good laugh.
Constant Maint. If your tender dont know how to clean your gear, (after every dive) your gear is going to fail. If you dont trust your tender, youve got to rinse it after every dive and dry it after your shift. My 18 is over 16 years old, and Ive only had to change out my innerds 3 times. Maint., Maint., Maint. ( Teaching your tender these three golden rules will allow you more rest, and prepare him/her for hat ownership as well).
