anyone know about the ruckus going on off Avoca Beech in my neck of the woods?
its about the scuttling of the ex HMAS Adelaide.
some locals don't like the idea of her going down in 35 Meters of water (IE away from the shore) off 'their beech'.
Strange i thought the water was Ours not theirs!
Anyway do a search under the ships name is good for a giggle if nothing else.
Myself i plan to be in one of the earliest groups i can be to say hello to the old girl when she's in her new home.

From my family's view point its also quite fitting - ya see in ww2 we had 6 serve of which 5 were killed with either RAAF or RAN by 1945.
Two of those (1 RAAF and 1 RAN) were on HMAS Sydney in 1941.
Now the RAAF Lad was the seaplane Pilot and that side of the Family came from Adelaide...
he also did his training and operated at a place called RAAF Rathmines (long closed), which was up near Newcastle...
so yeah i think its perfect to have the old girl scuttled here
the home town of the Airman and also his old stomping ground flying Seagull MK Vs and Walrus - most fitting!

Stephen.

PS
the other boy on HMAS Sydney came from the Melbourne side of the Family he was regular RAN joined in 1925 after serving in France in 1918 with AIF.
Names were Ray Barrey RAAF 407000 and Don Ross RAN 16199.
Don Joined HMAS Sydney in 1939, while Ray joined her in mid 1941 replacing the pilot who had been on board ever since the prewar period.
The RAN did not have the policy that some of the Naval Combatants had of separating Family Members so that they did not serve on the same ship...
The Honor Rolls of both HMA Ships Sydney (1941) and Perth (1942) show several cases where Families had more then one member on board and in both the above cases nearly all of them were Killed.
