Hi Doug The helmet is called a Neff-Ducey. In 1965 my then tender and my self designed and built this helmet. My diving career was about to come to an end due to hand jetting ear infections. Joe Savoie had invented the first light weight diving helmet but at that time he had stopped building them. So Mike and I decided to build our own. Historical Diving Society has these and other diving helmets listed under modern diving. Thanks for asking.    Jerry

We practiced that in school so I was used to it. With the mixed-gas rig we had a small pulley to keep the hat off our shoulders while sitting standby.

Yes, it is...back in 1980 as a standby diver doing pier inspections in Diego Garcia!

Hi Doug, the Comm hat 1 looks good, what's the different with S 17 or S 37. Recently my divers use the S 37. Jeff

Well the water filled liner was a disaster waiting to happen from the start. It's a perfect example of what happens when engineers, not divers try to "improve" the equipment. The liner held nearly 2 gallons (16 lbs) of water, just imagine what would have happened if it leaked while the diver was using it! not to mention it would freeze in cold water applications, all that frozen around the divers face, brrrr.

Do you have the original oral-nasal for it? they're rare today. The original was very wide with a sweet smell to it.
