I think about the horrors of what can happen with an accidental start EVERY time I'm under a boat on a wheel job or diving off a backup-jackup. It's why I love my fixed-blade knife. Lots of divers rock a folding Spyderco. I like the idea of being able to draw and use my blade (and I keep all of them sharp) in a hurry with one hand, especially if the other one gets injured.
I read the old web post and I wish the best of luck to you. You were lucky to have survived, but very unlucky in the way you're being treated. Also, much respect for your reaction to the situation and keeping your head under pressure (no pun intended). Keep fighting, and as my ex-MEU brother says, "adapt and overcome".
