Uh.. well, like I said. I was never really a tender. Going straight inland after school then making the transition to offshore. I bypassed the tender phase and came out as a surface diver.
Hey there. I also have a wife and 3 small daughters. I went to dive school in Houston and went inland right after school so that I could be home nearly every night. We moved to Phoenix and Chicago following my job. After 3 years of doing inland, we decided that there was better money offshore. I've been doing offshore for less than a year now and working as a surface diver. I completely passed the tender phase. Whew!! I was lucky enough to do my first SAT run just this week. I was only in there for 4 days, the money is effing awesome in there. But now that I'm out of decompression I'm back on the deck watching the tenders bust their a****. It'll pay off if you stay on track there guy. Good luck, I know it's hard to be a family man too,.
