Thanks alot for the info John. When i graduate at the tail end of march and begianing of april, how does one go about seeking a position. i have been told nothing is garunteed, and you have to phisically go to the gulf to hopefully get an interview? how does that work? Also, how would you compare CalDive and Global, and what you know about Epic, Tibouran, neptune, Phoenix, oceanering...? as far as position advancment, company future, breakout time, living situations, and word of mouth reputations.
I am VERY exited to start my career as a commercial diver, and probably offshore. i am just concerned with initially grabbing a position somewhere. What do you think my chances are getting hired on? i realize you need to have thick skin to survive offshore, and also a good work ethic. i am prepared to go balls out to achieve my goals.
Also, i have thoughts about spending this year doing some commercial harvesting for geoduck in the puget sound where i live because i have a more promissing spot on a boat, make some money, then search for employment in the gulf next spring. do you think waiting a year will negativly affect my chances?or i should rush down there asap?
Thank you for ANY information and advice.
-Michael
Hello John. My name is Michael Smart. i am currently attending the divers institute of technology in seattle, WA. I am very interested in working offshore and for a large company like CALDIVE. I am currently 19 years old and i am exited to start early on the road to SAT/mixed gas. How long have nyou been with CALDIVE and what is your background in commercial diving? Do you have any advice for a new dive school graduate looking to work offshore? I graduate in late march of 2010 and am prospecting options offshore.
