Experienced diver was wondering how hard it is to get work in Oz. My wife's family just moved to Oz and now she wants to go. Would love to do it but was wondering if any of you guys could tell me my chances of actually working? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Sean

There is plenty of work in Oz at times, sometimes it dries up. Are you looking for onshore or offshore work? Where will you be based?

Perth is the place to be for offshore work, that's where all the companies are based. Its hard to get a start with them and they like to employ divers that live in Perth. Once you have a start with them it is possible to live outside of the area.

Inshore work is going on all round the country, it can be a bit hot and cold at times, Queensland and western australia are pretty busy, Sydney is a good place for work also. Alot of guys have to get jobs on the side at times to top up there wages in quiet times.

Most of the work I do is welding and ships husbandry. Iv done lots of construction diving no viz s***ty jack hammering and coffer dams burning and that kind of stuff. Thank you very much for your reply Scott iv heard from most guys that Yanks dont stand a chance getting work down under. Im a PADI master Instructor and captain also so I guess that would work on the side. Would a ADC or DCBC cert work in Oz?

Ive worked with a Canadian diver over here so im sure DCBC will be good, im not sure about the ADC. If you have plenty of logged welding and cutting experience i dont think you would have trouble finding work, good welders and burners are hard to come by. PADI master work is real easy to find in the tourist spots, it pays rubbish though.

Good luck Sean

If your in Oz PM me and i can put you onto  some companies that i have worked for

Cheers

Thanks Scott I appreciate you taking the time bro. Safe diving.
