sponge diving in florida

Beware of this Idiot representing a job on this site for divers on a sponge fishing boat. Hell feed ya full of s***. And im not even sure he has a job to offer, I talked to him and was promised work that would add up to possibly 1300 a week. Never heard from him again, after Id made plans and gave up other projects..Hes a worthless piece of s*** fisherman who thinks he knows more than he does....leave it alone

Guys, I gave Dave a call today before I read all your posts and have yet to hear back from him. I am sure glad I read all this before I got too involved! I am a recreational diver but plan to attend Commercial Diving Academy in Jacksonville soon. I spend alot of time in the local rivers here in Montana dredging and sniping for gold. The work is hard but some days pay really well. The dives are all shallow(less than 30 ft) and a hooka set up would sure be better than tanks but it is still alot of fun. I am looking for experience in some other aspects of diving.....preferably somewhere without ice! If you guys have any thoughts or ideas let me know please.

First thing is dont waste all that money going to Jacksonville, Ole capn black will take everything you got..Look into Young memorial in Morgan city La. Its a hell of alot cheaper and ya learn the same s***, And you get to enjoy the lovely city of Morgan city and visit the famous Rat.....

Hey, I went out with Diver Dave. This guy is a nut case. He told me he has used 52 divers who either quit or he has fired. That number seemed strangely large. I think he has the guys that he hires out for one dive and then never pays them for there part or the catch.

there was a guy on the west coast a few years back named Noel Dryfus that played the same game working new divers then not paying them.
They found him one day floating in the harbor at Half Moon Bay ( Beat to death ).
Sounds like Diver Dave might end up sleeping with a sponge.

russ i have not been reading over the last few days as i was still full of my own self problem wise.

i am sorry for you, but some thing will turn up and this guy will get his come upance it just takes a little time.

the diffrence between us was i wanted this job so bad i could taste it for the last 12months, and yes i was promised it.
maybe that was one of my many sort falls.

I talked to him last year, no smoker, no tobacco of any kind on his boat! Sounded wierd to me! Kept calling me for a week. Im a diver, I gave up fishing years ago.! LOL Too many rules for someone who sounded so desperate for a good Diver to live aboard and pilot his vessel.
