Relocating to Texas. Any advice?

Hey guys, my name is Danny G. from Huntington Beach, CA. I just accepted a position with Neptune in Mansfield. Has anyone worked for this company or in this area. im moving out there blind and just wondering what to expect. And if any of you are out there and need a good drinking buddy and wingman holla at me.

Get your auto tags, license, and insurance in Texas.  Look at Fred Lloya insurance.  They bill you based on your driving record, not credit rating.

Several years back when they were USUS, that co. got into trouble with the labor board.  Seems they didn't pay overtime for hours after 40/week.  They were just paying the guys from job to job.

It may be a good idea to get what they promised you in writing before you move.  It happens, when dealing with these small inland companies, they promise you one thing, then when they feel they have you locked in, they start changing things up.

Keep good notes of everything you do, dates, times, and who was all involved.  If you have a dispute, this will pay off in the long run.

Great advise "they can promise you one thing then change almost everything" Moving is very expensive these days and its easy to get stuck somewhere. You really need to get an in writting commitment first. Ask to have some relocating money upfront you need to see a demonstration of a financial interest and commitment in you before you move and they can if necessary take it out of your pay. Keep your money in your pocket this will keep your money in your pocket and comittment them to hiring you. Times are hard and being in a new in a strange town not knowing anyone sucks, too many small dive operations trying to use the guys at the lower end result you lose-big fish eating the little fish.

I see your from HB I grew up in Garden Grove and where your headed is not California things are done diffrently and social values are diffrent too. Just rember to quit compairing things to Cal. and get use to saying "I like Texas". Texas is alot of fun an some great people there just leave that Cal. stuff in Cal. your headed for the great adventure of your life. Good luck man.

Ace is spot on about the Calli love.  It always seemed like the boys from there wanted to get back more than anything.  We all got sick of hearing about how great Calipornia is. If you stay in Texas you might want to get into shooting sports.  Texas is a gun friendly state.  A 12 hour course and a back ground check plus some $ can get you a Concealed Handgun License.

luckily im a former police officer and love shooting sports. thanks for the help guys. PS I grew up in GG and went to Rancho High School. Im a country boy at heart though. Im sure ill fit in in Texas.

Have one more beer at Hurricanes, and Redz juke joint lived on 16th and Orange worked in the union at the port, you will find that theres more work out in Texas/Gulf.... good luck!
