The Commercial Diver Network

Right here right now in light of the major incident of 2010 there exists an atmosphere of scrutiny and concern over who is actually "overseeing" our industries. The powers that be are finding that letting the "Fox overlook the hen house" has not been a good idea and never will be. The ADC has always been from it's inception a way for the contractors to dissuade the "Feds" (i.e. USCG/OSHA/MMS et al) in overseeing their "henhouse". This has not been good for the person on the deep end of the hose. There will never be a more favorable environment for us to finally stand together and "ORGANIZE" than right here right now. We will have to find a good ally in the form of legislators to help us; previous to the spill this may have been nearly impossible to find but now I know that certain legislators in accompanying Gulf States like Florida and Alabama would be appalled to know that organizations like the ADC have been creating their own set of rules in this specialized industry of ours. The ADC in its present form should be disbanded and reorganized to include input from a professional divers association. It is not right that the ADC has no professional divers or their representative on it's board of directors and therefore no input from the individuals who must work within their so called "consensus standards". So with this in mind as well as all of the other good ideas and comments represented here it imperative that we "UNITE" in some form or fashion as soon as possible as we all know it is way past time for us to do this. There are many respectable organizations that have become powerful forces in their respective industries the Airline Pilot's Association, Association of Sructural and Mechanical Engineers,American Welding Society et al just to name a few. We too must strive to be an association of professionals with the goal of elevating our standards as professionals and recognizing that we too deserve a decent standard of living.
