i have a small task and i am looking for ideas that will no doubt be better than my own.

here's the job its approx 200mtrs long & 20mtrs wide this is a stone mound placed by machine (stone size about as big as a soccer ball or less) on the sea bed, my task is to make sure its all level.

there is nothing retaining it other than its angle/slope to the would be level top area.
and of course large rocks to protect it.

so i could put a small frame all round and level it with that but any priceless ideas would be welcome.

A rock base with the angle of repose that would self level when put down. For example, angular rock has a higher angle of repose than river stone. But run around with yer pneumo and shoot it all in, if that isnt accurate enough and vis is good, use a water level with air in place of the water. Clear plastic tubing is easy to find in huge lengths.
good luck
To level or smooth the area this is the how I have done it. I take a pipe, 10 in or so and about 3 meters long, then a chain about 7 meters long. The pipe will have a h*** on each end that would allow a shackle. The chain is shackled to both end, the center of the chain spread is found and shackled to a tow line. This is towed about. Works good and another way is to use a track hoe... the same pipe has a slit cut in it that will allow the teeth of the bucket to fit in. The slit must be in the center of the pipe. Then a chain is pasted from one end of the pipe across the back of the bucket to the other end. The chain is made tight using a truck loading binder. The operator would work this across the bottom and slick it out. This is a good tool to use after a job to slick up a work sight close to the bank as well. John
Hi ,
how high is the highest point of the mound and how low do you have to bring it down to? How long time do you got to do it What is the depth?

I have done something like that but the time, depth and size matters a lot! We did 33 fields- each 35 meters long and 4.5 meters wide.We had to install on top of these fields 299 concrete blocks 40 tons each..... That's why I need some more info so I could come up with some ideas!

cheers

hey steve,
what kind of tolerances do you have to work to for the structure's width and leveled topside?
and what is it used for? pipeline rockarmour or some kind of artifical surf reef?
have used tractor tires chained togethor in the shape of the olympic rings towed over rough ground repeatedly during earthmoving jobs on farms before, have to ballast somehow for subsea work. Also seen 50 - 100m lengths of 20mm to 40mm diameter chain towed between two dozers to level ground for a rough finish. might work towing a ships anchor chain with some kind of spreader bar behind a workboat with a bit of grunt.
well sorry about the delay in replying but i have no idea as yet as they are giving nothing away, as i do not think they have the contract as yet.

but all i have been told is as flat and level as is possible
