So I'm heading off to India for my first offshore hitch, and I'm just wondering what are some must haves to take with me? So what I'm trying to say is I don't want to show up and realize that I should have brought ass wipe, but I also don't want to show up with a bunch of s*** I don't need! So if any of you can help a guy out it would be most appreciated. Especially if you've worked for Global Asia Pacific, what do they provide for gear?

TL;DR What s***(not certificates) do I need for the typical offshore hitch? And what does Global Asia Pacific provide?

Hi Everett......

Well Stuff needed for a typical offshore hitch........ ( Dont know about Global as I aint worked for them, but this should help...)

Here goes....

All the usual toiletries, smelly, soap, toothpaste, sun block if your the type that frys in the sun, etc etc ..... although sometimes you can purchase these on the vessel from the camp boss, although I would take your own stuff as there are some very strange alternatives out there!!!

Clothing, a pair of crocs or similar, trainers, kegs 3 pairs, socks 3 pairs, 2 old work t-shirts, 1 decent t-shirt, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of trousers ( usually the stuff you travel in is your good gear for the trip)
I know? this aint alot, but there is usually a little indian guy comes round at the end of each shift and sorts your dirty stuff out ready for the next.... if your lucky! Dont forget you dont need loads of stuff as most of your time is spent working and sleeping! Also your cabin mates wont appreciate a new guy turning up with the kitchen sink!!! As the cabins are pretty confined.

Work overalls and boots, safety specs, gloves etc are usally provided so dont worry about that you will get some from somewhere.

Take your laptop if you want or a small pda is usually better for your emailing etc... there is usually some kind of internet access. And or, a psp, mp3, is always good for killing time. Take a few up to date mags also as they help to pass the time and your new workmates will aslo enjoy them once you have read them and passed them on. Take some dvd's also, a bit of porn and some good movies always goes down well.

Get youself a supply of chewy and some boiled sweets or what ever your into for a few homely treats whilst on your trip, share them out, the little daft stuff makes a big difference!

Equipment, hat liner is a good one to take with you, a tool belt, clips, caribeana's, tool bag, diving knife, a kitchen devil for a deck knife (take a couple) folding plastic ruler, paint stick's, a medium size hook, your own harnace if you prefer although not needed, hogger (ascender). Small torch, small ajustable spanner for your tool belt, and any other bits and pieces you can think of that will make you more confortable at work, topside & subsea.

Yes and a couple more important things - Logbook, certs etc preferably on file on your PDA or laptop, and all your banking details complete with swift & bic codes or you aint getting paid!

Hey Everett, any chance of sending me a contact for Global so I can send my c.v???? Sat at home at the mo searching for work..... would be greatly appreciated :)

Anything else you wish to know give me a shout and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Good luck, be safe, and enjoy your first trip offshre!!! I'm sure you will.....

Best Regards - Richard
