not even ADC certified...yet..
I am 39 years old..healthy male..and I decided on becoming a commercial diver in early 2007..sure,I enjoy the water and at the time was not even scuba certified..I received my open water from NAUI and even enrolled in a school that I was unable to finish through.Consider me a newbie. Now my plans are running me into attending a new school in Jacksonville,Florida..Commercial Diving Academy.
I've heard a lot already about my age("yer too old,man") and that work will not be easily attainable..blah blah blah.
The good side of it all: I'm single,never married and have no children..so I'm not stuck on my foundation.I am as free as a bird.
And..I DO still want to be a commercial diver.
I want advice and suggestions gang! The credentials/doc**entation i will need to work worldwide..what to expect and not expect as a tender/diver and my break-in time.The school will offer underwater welding but how will that work out?
I've hit enough barricades and obstacles as it is in my career journey but refuse to let it go,much less give it all up.

Some words of motivation and to keep me going will be most appreciated from all of you.
I have had mostly positive reinforcement from other divers worldwide.
I'm excited as anything to get the ball rolling but everything in life has its up's and down's and I know commercial diving is no exception to the rule.
Help me out here..I know i'm in the right place!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH ADC CERTIFICATION.
GET HSE OR IMCA CERTIFICATION
WILL COST YOU LESS{IF YOU GO OVERSEA MUCH LESS] AND YOU COULD WORK WORLD WIDE.

WITH THAT CERTIFICATION YOU CAN WORK ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, INCLUDING THE NORWEGIAN NORTH SEA SECTOR.
REVIEW AND RESEARCH AND YOU WILL SEE.
AN ADC CARD IS WORTHLESS!

Hey Juan,
Your not to old that is if your in good shape now. Too old bull I know divers who were diving in their late 70's and could run circles around the crew with their skills. Diving is a lifelong pursuit look at it that way however starting out will take all you got it can be just brutal not to mention having to listen to the youngsters dialogue. That can really be brutal anyway bring your skills with you we dont just blow bubbles down there you know. Oh yea I started doing this in 1970 and am still doing it so do the math it can be lifelong. One other thing since your starting out get the IMCA card. Also before you unload your cash to a school to the tune of the price of a new truck why not try the dive school in Morgan City to see it its really for you and when you finish instead of oweing for the school you can buy your own new truck and a dive hat-much smarter.

J.Ace..oh yea..I checked out that school and as far as lodging is concerned,i'm not good at all.
CDA offers lodging and meals and it has been highly recommended by more than a couple of peeps already.
The IMCA and HSE certs pose a new challenge no doubt.but i shouldnt get ahead of myself just yet!

Ok here goes CDA is a good school however when you spend your money that could buy you a new truck that you will most likely be going into debt for in todays ever changing world you should get a IMCA and HSE cert anything,anything,anything,anything else will just be a big waste of time as you will find out when you want to keep working and dive throughout the world. Get those certs even if you have to go to Canana or South Africa. Just a little word to the wise as I see it. I dont have a IMCA or a HSE and if I did I could be going many other places. Food for thought my brother.
