National University has a fully accredited Commercial Dive School!

I am an instructor at National University and am here to answer questions and raise awareness of our Commercial Dive Program!

Did you know that National University Polytechnic Institute has a fully accredited Commercial Dive Program?  With their certifications you will be able to step into an exciting career in the commercial diving industry! The Commercial Diving Program, offers two specialties for you to choose from focusing on either Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine (DMT) or Underwater Inspection Technology (NDT).  Regardless of which specialty you choose, all students are trained to the American Welding Society's underwater welding code (AWS).  Also, since National University is a regionally accredited institution; your credits will hold academic weight for use at other institutions. This also provides our students with the ability to receive the full amount of Veteran’s and Federal Financial Aid benefits that they qualify for.  All questions can be answered by calling the toll free number, (800) 432-3483.  If after hours, please leave a message and they will get back to you.

I will try to field as many questions as I can on here also!  Let em fly!

Francisco:

Your kidding me right?  That's a job???

I betcha that's what you tell prospective students " Come to our school, borrow thousands of dollars you'll never pay back, and you too can clean up whale s***, travel with dolphins to detect sea mines, work week ends, holidays,  and travel to exotic locals aka high risk zones, oh and its shift work".

What a Joke!!!

Tomorrow, NUPI is hosting an Open House for prospective students interested in learning more about our Commercial Dive and EMT Programs! There will be a dive demonstration and an opportunity to tour the facility and meet the instructors. Financial aid representatives will also be present! If you are in the area, feel free to swing by.

Location: 3570 Aero Court, San Diego, CA, 92123
Date: Friday, June 28, 2013

NUPI now has an Underwater Welding Program! All students that enroll in the course will learn high quality Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) skills both above and below the water! Upon completion of this course students will have earned a Certification of Completion in Underwater Welding to the standards set by the American Welding Society (AWS)! This certificate affords students the opportunity to sit for the AWS Underwater Welding Class B performance qualification a****sment. Visit http://www.nupolytech.org/ to find out more!

Cisco:

Can students get an AWS under water weld certification?

Yes David,

All students enrolled in the course will learn high quality Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) skills both above and below the water. Upon completion of this course students will have earned a Certification of Completion in Underwater Welding to the standards set by the American Welding Society (AWS).  The certificate affords students the opportunity to sit for the AWS Underwater Welding Class B performance qualification a****sment. Upon passing the qualification test you will be qualified and certified to perform underwater welds in the vertical (3F) position, the horizontal (2F) position and the flat (1F) position.

The long and short answer to my previous question is therefore, no.  You provide "training" and then the student has to get certified somewhere else at their own expense, typical.

Our apprentices who, are certified commercial divers, can get "certified" in any underwater welding procedure/position that they test out on as certified by our instructor who is a AWS inspector.

Upon completion of the underwater welding course, the student will deposit a sound weld that will be inspected by our AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).  If the student is successful, they will receive a Certificate of Completion in Underwater Welding IAW AWS D3.6 standards.

The only weld certification service that offers an underwater welding certificate, that I am aware of, is Lloyds Register.  AWS does not provide certification for underwater welding.

AWS has published the following specification: D3.6M 1999 for Underwater Welding:

This specification covers the requirements for welding structures or components under the surface of water. It includes welding in both dry and wet environments. Sections 1 through 6 constitute the general requirements for underwater welding while sections 7 through 10 contain the special requirements applicable to four individual cla**** of weld: Class A - Comparable to above-water welding Class B - For less critical applications Class C - Where load bearing is not a primary consideration Class O - To meet the requirements of another designated code or specification ISBN 0-87171-542-2

You can be certified in the different positions in accordance with the standards listed under this Specification.

Well Francisco, it looks like you have succeeded another year at conning students into taking cla**** at your overpriced Dive School.
