I think they both have their pros and cons.
Obviously having all the money to spend on getting tickets means the CV will look top notch but the problem with that is that you won't have the experience to back it up with. But because you have spent all the money and have a basic understanding of whatever extra tickets you have then you will surely have the advantage over someone who is good at working civils.
Thats the way I see it but I'm a baby diver still trying to get my first job so feel free to correct me on anything.
I know some excellent divers who work in UK civils without any tickets other than the basic diving certs and some divers who have been offshore after spending thousands on tickets and I wouldn't let them clean out my fish tank.
Get some experience inshore and make some money, offshore is quiet now but it will always be there so no need to rush. At the end of the day you need the tickets to get out there and you will be investing in yourself.
Stick with it as long you can keep paying the bills.
Cheers brother been in the game for about three years now and things never seem to get any better you no. But to be honest its probably just the jan Feb draught thats getting me down. Cheers for the advice though champ.
