Hi Gents -
I am hoping perhaps someone can give me some refined insight into what my be some options I need to consider before pursing a career in Comm. Diving.
A little background on my past as I am relatively young (29) and bit of an entrepreneur so I am trying to figure out how CD fits into my future.
-Owner and operated a rec. diving charter company in Central America for 3 years. Loved every minute of it, but my little girl is getting to an age where schooling is a major concern, so I sold the business and moved back to the US (Texas).
- Also started and managed a fairly large automotive repair business for 4 years (7 years total experience working as a mechanic on Mercedes automobiles)
- Several years of an operational background with major investment companies.
- Bachelors degree in Finance
So why Commercial Diving?
I love working and constructing with my hands and have a deep passion for diving (Currently PADI Divemaster) so it seems like a natural career path to investigate. However, I also have a love for creating and operating businesses so would want to incorporate some aspect of management into this career.
My major concern is that most of the money/opportunities seem to be offshore and I am happily married. From my research, the two dont seem to blend well together.
Given my background, can anyone recommend what they would suggest the best course of action would be to investigate? For example, are there any opportunities for individuals coming out of dive school and moving into some sort of operational managementposition that is also involved actively in diving? What is the scope of the job market these days?
Greatly appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
Cheers.
