Hello all
I`m working on going through EI for a commercial diver and need to find work in Ontario, that is the only way that they will help me.
Would anyone out there know anyone that is hiring for August?
I have worked as a millwright for about 4 years, no ticket.
I`m a ticketed marine tech, as well as a ticketed welder.
I have my open water and have been diving for about 8 years.

I think you will find with the EI funding that there are two options. One is proof of a gaurenteed job when you are through your training. The other option takes a lot more research but they should let you prove to them that there are plenty of jobs out there. I did this program through EI in BC and I had to make a list of about 12 companies anywhere in Canada. I found information about things like how many people they hire per year, have they hired from said school, pay rates, additional attributes, and showed that there were as many jobs out there as graduates. Using bigger industries like aquaculture as an advantage will up those numbers even if you dont intend to work in that field. Hopefully this is an other option aside from a gaurenteed job. Good luck. Onl thing I could think of is it might be hard to prove there are more jobs for divers than forwelders if you are already ticketed there.
Which part of Ontario are you from?
Dexter, look at www.longstreath.com ---menu, diving companys Canada. Over 60 companies listed, not including all aquaculture divers. I'm pretty sure after sifting out Ont. co.s you will have more than enough. There are international co.s like Allseas Group & Technip starting, working and winding up work at present. Don't forget to check out online industry periodicals- Offshore Mag., Rigzone, Maritime Reporter, etc. etc. good luck - bg ----------------------ps. good luck is the result of thorough preparation ( research ) and seizing every opportunity.
pps;look at allseas group (offshore construction/pipelay) canada in Halifax, NS--------- not all sea vancouver (hull ckeaning).
