I would like to hear some opinions for employment after attending a commercial diving course/school....would you prefere to have an Inland/inshore or an offshore job? It probably depends on salary, time off, working conditions etc. I'm aware that offshore is the ultimate goal for almost all commercial divers but can you be satisfied with your professional status, paycheck and gained experience even if you decide taking an inland/inshore career as a diver?

Underwater is underwater or you could become a pearl diver at Micky Dees.
lol
If you should be so lucky to secure an inland job, you would be undertaking a lifetimes worth of obtaining the skills to succede. There is so much required in diverse skills to keep you busy the rest of your career.
ps-union scale plus bennies can easily match offshore wages.
hi Lipa
All I have done was Inshore, so I cant comment on the offshore stuff, but I have a good friend who has done both, now he prefers offshore becuase everything is bigger and the lifestyle. However he says like Bill did as well that Inshore the veriaty of work is very very vast! Like I said I cant speak for offshore as i only have done inshore, but i was able to stay really busy last year and yes the wages I really couldnt complain at all especially if it was a union gig. I was usually never gone longer then a week or 2 from home and I would say on average about 3 or 4 days a week gone from home, now sometimes it would be more and sometimes less but it felt always like I would not see my own bed for about 3 nights a week. The longest I was gone last year I think was just over a month I did a string of jobs all over the place for one company so we did some serious running around and yeah I payed rent and never used it that month lol. I did all kinds of work as well, quite a veriaty and I gotta be honest there was always that kind of nervousness showing up to the site thinking man what are we going to do today becuase they usually dont tell you on the phone and you just hope that you can get in there and figure it out and do the best job you can.
That sayin I do want to try offshore as well but if inshore is for you, with the right company you will make probably more then the average wage in your area. And I do belive its gonna take many more years of experience before I can show up to a site confident in knowing what the hell the job actually entails :D Thats just my personal experience and 2 cents!
Good luck!
